about.

about

Alicia Gan is currently a Sophomore at Yale University. her work primarily explores objects and subjects of tension from everyday life, emphasizing biomorphic forms and the use of the human figure as a vehicle for communication. early pieces portray a more realistic, observation-oriented style, but recent works have evolved to hold more thematic weight and personal narratives, and are drawn largely from her imagination.

she is influenced by the Surrealists, who provide both aesthetic and conceptual inspiration, especially artists such as Yves Tanguy and Salvador Dali. their use of a curvilinear aesthetic has influenced the imagery of recent pieces, which challenge my prior realistic works with more fluid and spontaneous shapes, part of her ongoing journey of relinquishing control in art practice.

art, to her, is most potent when it is a common ground for discourse and healing. leaning into more theme-driven work, Alicia has begun to see how art ultimately means the most to her when it is able to touch other people.
